A rainfall warning is in effect in Prince Edward County, and Napanee with Environment Canada predicting 50 to 75 mm of rainfall on Wednesday morning. The weather agency stated radar indicates 50 to 75 mm of rain has fallen over eastern parts of Prince Edward County. The heaviest rain has shifted west, where total rainfall amounts near 50 mm can be expected through Wednesday morning…. here in the county it looks like the rain will subside around 10am

Things are looking up in the real estate business. The President of the Central Lakes Association of Realtors Chrstine Riley says home sales increased in April along with the number of active listings leading to lower average prices for home buyers. In Belleville 57 single family homes were sold in April, up from 42 in March. The median price, the price at which half of the prices were higher and half lower, was $535,000. In Quinte West 61 homes changed hands last month, up from 55 the month before. The median price was $540,000. In Prince Edward County 24 single family homes were sold, up from 20 in March. The median price in the county was over $787,000.

The United States and China will hold trade talks in Switzerland this week, officials have said, as the world’s two largest economies seek to de-escalate tensions that have led to a de facto mutual trade embargo. The talks would be the first official engagement between Washington and Beijing on trade since US President Donald Trump slapped a 145 percent tariff on Chinese goods, prompting a retaliatory 125 percent duty from China.

India fired missiles at multiple locations in Pakistani-controlled territory early Wednesday — killing at least eight people including a child according to Pakistan’s military spokesperson, which that country’s leader called an act of war. At least three civilians were also killed in retaliatory shelling by Pakistani troops into Indian-controlled Kashmir, the Indian army said in a statement. India said it was striking infrastructure used by militants linked to last month’s massacre of tourists in its portion of Kashmir.

Canada’s emergency public alerting system will undergo its annual testing on Wednesday. The Alert Ready system delivers critical and potentially life-saving alerts to Canadians through television, radio and LTE-connected and compatible wireless devices. Its distinctive, loud tone will be broadcast in Ontario at 12:55 p.m. No action is required. It is only a test.

One thing is becoming clear during this year’s NHL playoffs: Don’t count out the Edmonton Oilers. They rallied from a 2-0 series deficit to oust Los Angeles in six games in the first round. Then they opened the second round Tuesday night by setting a league record with their fifth consecutive playoff comeback victory in a single postseason.Zach Hyman scored from just above the right circle with 3:02 left to put Edmonton ahead for good in its 4-2 victory over Vegas Golden Knights after falling behind 2-0.

Jacob Slavin’s overtime goal gave the Carolina Hurricanes a 2-1 victory over the host Washington Capitals in Game 1 of their second-round NHL playoff series on Tuesday night.

Logan O’Hoppe drove in the tiebreaking run in the eighth inning, Yoán Moncada followed with a three-run homer, and the Los Angeles Angels rallied to beat the Toronto Blue Jays 8-3 on Tuesday night for just their second win in 10 games.
